Hello,

I wanted to just let you know that the price of USPS stamps has gone up again. If you were considering stocking up, bad news to tell you—it’s too late to get those 73-cent Forever stamps. As of Sunday, July 13, the new prices are effective.

The new cost of forever stamps

The Forever stamp now costs 78 cents today. That’s 5 cents higher than the old rate of 73 cents.

If you mail a lot of letters using stamps, this will definitely add up over time.

Why are stamp prices going up?

The United States Postal Service (USPS) says it needs more money to stabilize. They’re working on a plan, “Delivering for America,” that will fix things in the next 10 years or so.

In short, they say they’re still cheaper than most foreign countries’ mail, even with the rate hike.

It’s not just forever stamps

Other USPS products and services are getting more expensive, too. These changes are expected to raise overall prices by 7.4%.

So, whether you’re mailing a letter or using other USPS services, you’ll likely feel the difference.

Who approved the price increase?

The Postal Regulatory Commission, which checks and approves USPS pricing, gave the green light. They agreed that USPS could raise prices under the current rules.

Final thought

Although it’s just a couple of cents, these price increases add up, particularly for individuals who mail a great deal of items. If you’ll be mailing items on a regular basis, perhaps you should keep your eye on the price of stamps sometime in the future.

And if you already have the Forever stamps before the rate hike, wonderful! You can keep on using them. They’re always worth whatever the current First-Class stamp is, no matter what you paid.

If you’d like help finding more cost-effective ways to send things, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve!
