If you have been keeping an eye on political headlines lately, you may have noticed that President Donald Trump is taking heat over how his administration handled the Jeffrey Epstein case files. A new Quinnipiac University poll shows that 63 percent of voters disapprove of how Trump and his team dealt with the documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender.

Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Since then, many Americans have demanded full transparency on who was involved, especially names in his so-called “client list.” Trump had promised to release the information, but recent statements from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI claim there is no such list, and no further charges will be made.

What do the polls say about public opinion?

The Quinnipiac poll, which surveyed 1,290 registered voters between July 10 and 14, found some striking numbers:

  • 63 percent disapproved of the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files
  • Only 17 percent said they approved
  • Among Democrats, 83 percent disapproved
  • Even among Republicans, 36 percent voiced disapproval

That tells you this is not just a partisan issue—people across the board are not happy.

Other polls back up the same message. A The Economist/YouGov poll found that:

  • 79 percent of Americans want the full release of Epstein-related documents
  • 67 percent believe there is a government cover-up
  • 59 percent of Trump supporters also said they think the government is hiding information

A Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,164 likely voters showed:

  • 56 percent do not believe what the FBI and DOJ have said about Epstein
  • Just 21 percent think the government is telling the truth

Clearly, people want answers—and they feel like they are not getting them.

Why is this a big deal for trump?

This backlash is a serious blow for Trump, especially with elections and midterms coming up. According to Mark Shanahan, a political expert from the University of Surrey, this issue hits at the heart of Trump’s base.

He said:

“The Epstein backlash has the power to hurt Trump badly… Releasing the Epstein Files is the Holy Grail for the MAGA base… Some within MAGA are definitely questioning Trump’s role and wondering what he has to hide.”

That is a big shift. Trump’s supporters trusted him to expose wrongdoing and uncover deep government secrets. When he said the files would be released, they believed him. Now many are feeling let down—and that could mean trouble for Trump’s support going forward.

What is Trump saying in response?

Trump has fired back hard, calling the renewed focus on the Epstein case a distraction. On Truth Social, he posted:

“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bull****,’ hook, line, and sinker… They haven’t learned their lesson.”

He has also pushed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release only what she thinks is “credible,” which has done little to quiet the backlash.

Will the epstein files ever be fully released?

Right now, no one knows for sure. The DOJ says there is no client list. Trump supporters are skeptical. Critics say there is more to the story. And voters across the country are demanding transparency.

For now, one thing is clear: most Americans are not buying it. The Epstein case has become more than a criminal investigation—it is now a political flashpoint that could shape how voters see Trump and the government as a whole.
