J.D. Vance’s half-sister is Lindsay Ratliff, who was born in 1980 to Bev Vance at the age of 19 years. She grew up with J.D. in Middletown, Ohio, and despite their difficult upbringing shares a close bond with her brother J.D.

Lindsay Ratliff’s background

Lindsay is about 5 years older than J.D., and she was very protective of him when they were kids. Their parents got divorced while J.D. was still a youngster, and his mother, Bev, started using drugs, so there was much strife in the household.

Mostly, Lindsay and J.D. were reared by their grandparents–whom they tagged as “Papaw and Mamaw.” Lindsay remembered that whenever things got tough, her instinct was to always run to her grandmother first rather than call 911.

Where Is Lindsay Ratliff now?

Lindsay Ratliff currently resides in Middletown, Ohio, just a few miles away from her mother and brother. She lives there with her husband Kevin and their three children.

Lindsay is assistant head coach at ASICS America Corporation. J.D. Vance has described the influential role his sister played in his young life and showed gratitude for her in his memoir “Hillbilly Elegy”.

Lindsay Ratliff’s view about J.D. Vance

Yet, no matter how many hardships they went through together from the beginning, Lindsay was always protective of her brother, J.D. Vance. When he caught some flak in 2016, Lindsay went to bat for him too: “The kid has never done wrong in my eyes. J.D. has a part of my soul that nobody will ever have, and I’ll protect him until the day I die.”

In an interview with Megyn Kelly, Lindsay said, “I would die for that kid, and I know he would too.” She also admitted feeling guilty about not having been able to help J.D. more as children, but J.D. said no one had any reason to feel guilty about his life.

J.D. Vance has mentioned he is fully proud of Lindsay, and most times resorts to her for advice and counsel. Lindsay, too, has not shied away from speaking about having the back of J.D. in his political career. She says that she is firm about keeping him safe.

Although Lindsay has not directly uttered a word, through J.D.’s history of statements, it is pretty easy to say she will stick with her brother and his decisions after J.D. announced that he is running with Donald Trump as vice president in the 2024 election. Their strong tie, like that developed in adversity, seems to be the key to their relation.
