If you made a video game purchase through GameStop’s website in the last few years, you might be able to get some money back—or at least a store voucher. GameStop has agreed to pay $4.5 million to settle a lawsuit, and now thousands of Americans are eligible to claim a payout. The clock is ticking though. You only have until August 15, 2025, to submit your claim.

Who qualifies for the gamestop settlement?

To be eligible for the payout, you need to meet three basic conditions:

  • You bought a video game from GameStop’s website between August 18, 2020, and April 17, 2025.
  • You were a Facebook user at the time of that purchase.
  • You had a public Facebook profile that showed your real name.

If that sounds like you, then you are likely entitled to a payment from this settlement.

This all stems from the lawsuit Alejandro Aldana and Scott Gallie v. GameStop, Inc. The lawsuit claims that GameStop shared customers’ personal video viewing information with Facebook—without getting their permission—by using something called the Facebook Tracking Pixel. This was seen as a violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

How much money can you get from the gamestop settlement?

You have two choices when filing your claim:

  • Cash payment of up to $5
  • Voucher for up to $10 to use on GameStop’s website

The final amount you receive depends on how many people submit a claim. If many people file, the payout might be lower, but if fewer people claim, you could receive the full amount.

How to submit your gamestop settlement claim

Filing your claim is easy, and you can do it online or by mail.

To file online:

  • Go to the official GameStop VPPA Settlement website.
  • Enter the requested information, including proof that you meet the criteria.

To file by mail:

  • Print out and complete the official claim form.
  • Mail it to:
    GameStop VPPA Settlement Administrator
    P.O. Box 4129
    Portland, Oregon 97208-4129

Make sure your claim is postmarked by August 15, 2025, if mailing.

When will you get your gamestop settlement money?

Payments will not go out until the court gives final approval. The settlement is still under review, but if approved, eligible claimants should receive their payment or voucher sometime after August.

Keep in mind:

  • You will only receive one payout per person.
  • You cannot sue GameStop separately about this issue if you participate in the settlement.

Why is this gamestop lawsuit important?

This case is one more example of how data privacy issues are catching up with big companies. If you have ever worried about how your data is used online, especially when shopping, this is exactly the kind of lawsuit that pushes for more transparency and accountability.

Whether you prefer cash or store credit, this is your shot to claim a little something back—just do not miss the deadline.
