Forage’s chief executive, Ofek Lavian, illustrated the significance of the partnership with Uber Eats in expanding grocery delivery services for SNAP beneficiaries across the country. Lavian explained why Forage is very instrumental in this payment option, but suggested that their alliance with Uber Eats would speed up the process of onboarding SNAP retailers. In turn, they seek to eliminate the barriers and help millions of low-income Americans gain access to healthier and more convenient grocery purchasing options.
Grocery stores participating in this program will provide various items that can be purchased with SNAP through Uber Eats, from which customers can choose to collect specific items found at the nearest stores. As it was highlighted by Bryn Banuelos, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, such initiatives are in line with Albertsons’ mission to combat food insecurity. Banuelos also mentioned the company’s objective of developing an agile and considerate shopping model and was pleased that the company became the first major retailer to work with Uber Eats in connecting SNAP EBT delivery to its customers.
This change is not just about offering comfort and convenience at this time. It seeks to eliminate issues that limit the access of the older population, as well as the ‘mobility-challenged,’ to healthy, fresh food. As Jessica Johnston, Senior Director at the Center for Economic Well-Being at the National Council on Aging, observed, older adults are better able to promote healthy living and gain more independence because they can now use SNAP benefits on Uber Eats.
