Dollar General and DoorDash have teamed up to provide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients with a new way to access groceries. Through this partnership, more than 16,000 Dollar General stores now accept SNAP/EBT payments online via the DoorDash Marketplace, making it easier for eligible customers to order food for delivery.
Dollar General and DoorDash expand SNAP access
With this expansion, DoorDash’s network of stores accepting SNAP/EBT online payments has nearly doubled, now covering over 35,000 locations nationwide. The initiative is aimed at improving food accessibility and convenience for millions of Americans who rely on government assistance to purchase groceries.
“Dollar General’s mission of Serving Others includes helping customers save time and money every day,” said Tony Rogers, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Dollar General. “Unlocking the ability for SNAP/EBT recipients to shop online and have groceries delivered straight to their door through DoorDash provides even more accessibility and convenience.”
With approximately 75% of the U.S. population living within five miles of a Dollar General store, the company aims to make grocery shopping more convenient, particularly for those in underserved communities.
How SNAP customers can use doorDash for Dollar General Orders
To take advantage of this service, SNAP recipients can follow these steps:
- Download the DoorDash App or Visit the Website – Customers can browse available stores, including Dollar General locations, on the DoorDash Marketplace.
- Add Eligible SNAP Items to the Cart – Shoppers can select groceries, including fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, and snacks, all of which are eligible for SNAP/EBT payments.
- Choose the Payment Method – At checkout, users can enter their SNAP/EBT card details to pay for eligible food items. Non-eligible items, such as household supplies, must be paid for separately with another form of payment.
- Schedule the Delivery – Once the order is placed, DoorDash drivers will deliver the groceries to the customer’s doorstep.
Powered by forage’s payment system
The partnership is facilitated through Forage, a San Francisco-based payments company specializing in processing SNAP/EBT transactions online. By integrating Forage’s technology, Dollar General and DoorDash can securely accept government food assistance benefits on their platform.
“At DoorDash, our commitment to fighting food insecurity remains at the core of our mission,” said Fuad Hannon, Vice President of New Verticals at DoorDash. “We’re proud to collaborate with Dollar General to further this commitment, ensuring even more SNAP beneficiaries nationwide can conveniently access fresh, affordable groceries with the dignity and ease they deserve.”
Why thisatters for SNAP recipients
This collaboration is expected to benefit millions of SNAP recipients, particularly those facing barriers to in-person grocery shopping due to:
- Limited Transportation – Many low-income families do not have reliable access to grocery stores.
- Health and Mobility Issues – According to a recent DoorDash survey, nearly one in four SNAP users rely on grocery delivery because they cannot easily shop in-store.
- Busy Schedules – The convenience of ordering online allows SNAP recipients to save time while ensuring they receive the groceries they need.
Discounted dashpass for SNAP users
In addition to accepting SNAP/EBT payments, DoorDash offers a discounted DashPass membership for eligible recipients. The DashPass subscription, which normally costs $9.99 per month, is available for just $4.99 per month for SNAP users. It includes benefits such as:
- Free delivery on eligible grocery orders
- Reduced service fees
- Exclusive deals and promotions
This initiative helps SNAP recipients save even more money while accessing groceries conveniently.
