If you’re relying on Texas SNAP benefits, then you know that your payments don’t all come on the same day of the month. Instead of having everyone get their money all at the same time, the state makes deposits over several weeks. This ensures the smooth operation of the programme and prevents grocery stores from experiencing a surge of customers on the same day.
Whether you are planning your next shopping trip or just want to know when your Lone Star Card will be refreshed, the following is everything you need to know regarding the SNAP schedule, benefit amounts, and qualifications for September 2025.
How Texas determines when you are paid
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Texas has a tiered payment schedule. Your benefit deposit date is determined by your Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number, which identifies your household.
If your household was certified on or after June 1, 2020: Your benefits are deposited between the 16th and 28th of the month. The last two digits of your EDG number determine the exact date.
If your household was certified before June 1, 2020:
- Payments are made between the 1st and the 15th of each month, based only on the last digit of your EDG number.
- Payments are loaded onto the Lone Star Card, Texas’ EBT card, which works like a debit card — but may be used only to buy food from participating merchants.
- A Look Back: August 2025 Payment Wrap-Up
The August payout schedule ended just in time before the end of the month:
- EDG ranges 35–38 and 89–92 were paid out on August 26.
- EDG ranges 39–41 and 93–95 were paid out on August 27.
- EDG ranges of 42–45 and 96–99 concluded the month on August 28.
September will be similar, with deposits trickling out gradually. This will be beneficial to families that can plan to do grocery shopping on their scheduled dates rather than making rounds on the first of the month.
How much SNAP money will I get?
SNAP benefits are based on income, family size, and costs such as rent and electricity that are subsidised. But there is an annual maximum determined by the USDA based on the rate of living expenses. For fiscal year 2025 (Oct. 1, 2024 – Sept. 30, 2025), these are Texas families’ highest monthly benefit amounts:
- 1 person: $292
- 2 people: $536
- 3 people: $768
- 4 people: $975
- 5 people: $1,158
- 6 people: $1,390
- 7 people: $1,536
- 8 people: $1,756
- Each additional person: +$220
Most families receive less than these amounts since deductions are applied at the time of eligibility.
Who qualifies for SNAP in Texas?
Not everybody qualifies by default. Texas has stringent requirements for income and assets:
- Gross income cutoff: Roughly 130% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) — about $1,632/month for one person or $3,380/month for a four-person family.
- Net income threshold: After deductions, income must fall below 100% of the FPL.
- Asset threshold: $2,500 per household — or $3,750 if someone in your household is disabled or over age 60. Certain things, like your home, one vehicle, and most retirement accounts, do not count.
Candidates also must be Texas residents, adhere to citizenship or lawful residence requirements, and report changes in household income or family size within 10 days. Able-bodied adults with no dependents (ABAWDs) must meet work or training requirements in order to be eligible for benefits in the long run.
How to apply or manage your benefits
Applying is simple: Go online to YourTexasBenefits.com or call 2-1-1. You’ll need to provide documents verifying your identity, income, household expenses, and living situation. The state may also schedule an interview, often done by phone.
