If you live in Texas and get help from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), you already know how important this support can be. SNAP helps more than 3 million Texans every month, including families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.
Instead of paper coupons, Texas uses the Lone Star Card, which works like a debit card. Each month, money is loaded onto your card, and you can use it at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other places that accept SNAP.
SNAP is designed to make it easier for you to buy food that supports healthy meals. While it does cover many basic items, it also comes with some restrictions on what you can and cannot purchase.
What foods can you buy with SNAP
Here is a quick look at what your Lone Star Card covers:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Meat, poultry, and fish
- Dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt
- Bread, rice, pasta, and cereals
- Pantry staples such as beans, eggs, spices, and condiments
- Seeds and plants that grow food for your household
And here is what you cannot buy with SNAP:
- Alcohol or tobacco products
- Hot or ready-to-eat meals
- Household items like cleaning supplies, diapers, or soap
- Pet food
- Vitamins, supplements, or medicines
- Live animals
Who receives SNAP benefits in Texas this week
SNAP benefits in Texas are not sent to everyone on the same day. Instead, the state uses the last two digits of your case number to decide when your monthly payment arrives.
If your case number falls into one of the groups listed below, you will receive your payment this week between September 22 and September 28, 2025:
- Case numbers 75 – 78: Paid on September 22
- Case numbers 79 – 81: Paid on September 23
- Case numbers 82 – 85: Paid on September 24
- Case numbers 86 – 88: Paid on September 25
- Case numbers 89 – 92: Paid on September 26
- Case numbers 93 – 95: Paid on September 27
- Case numbers 96 – 99: Paid on September 28
If your case number does not fall into these ranges, your payment will either have already been sent earlier in the month or will be scheduled for October, depending on your cycle.
How to check your SNAP balance
If you are unsure when your benefits hit your Lone Star Card, there are a few easy ways to check:
- Call the Lone Star Help Desk at the number on the back of your card
- Log into your account at YourTexasBenefits.com
- Download the Your Texas Benefits mobile app to see payment details and your balance instantly
This way, you will always know how much you have to spend and when your funds become available.
Why SNAP payment dates matter
Knowing your payment date helps you plan ahead for groceries and budgeting. If your case number places you later in the month, you may need to stretch what you have left from your last deposit until your new benefits arrive. Planning meals and making shopping lists can go a long way in helping you make the most of your SNAP benefits.
