If you are an AT&T customer, you may be eligible for a settlement payment after two massive data breaches exposed personal information from millions of users. The company has agreed to a $177 million settlement, but the amount you could receive depends on which breach affected your information.
Here is what you need to know:
- Customers affected by the March 2024 breach can claim up to $5,000.
- Customers affected by the July 2024 breach can claim up to $2,500.
- Customers impacted by both breaches may claim up to $7,500.
The key detail is that you must provide proof of actual losses connected to the data breach. Without this documentation, you will not be able to collect the full amount.
What information was exposed in theAT&T data breaches
The reason these settlements are so significant is because of the type of information that was leaked.
- In March 2024, the breach affected about 73 million current and former customers. Sensitive details like birth dates and Social Security numbers were discovered on the dark web.
- In July 2024, hackers accessed AT&T’s databases through a third-party cloud platform. This breach exposed call and text records from almost all of the company’s mobile customers.
Both incidents led to lawsuits, which were combined into a class-action settlement.
How to know if you are eligible for AT&T settlement money
If you were a customer during either breach, you may qualify for compensation. The settlement administrator, Kroll Settlement Administration, has started sending email notices to eligible customers. These emails come from [email protected].
If you are unsure whether you qualify, you can:
- Call the settlement administrator at (833) 890-4930
- Visit the official settlement website to review details and file a claim
How much money can AT&T customers actually receive
The settlement is broken into two groups:
- March 2024 breach – Up to $5,000 for documented losses from 2019 or later.
- July 2024 breach – Up to $2,500 for losses that occurred on or after April 14, 2024.
- Both breaches (overlapping claim) – Up to $7,500 for customers who were impacted in both cases.
Keep in mind, you must submit evidence of losses “substantially attributable” to the breaches. That might include bank statements, tax filings, or other documents that show how you were harmed.
What is the deadline to file an AT&T settlement claim
The deadline to file your claim is November 18, 2025. If you do not file by this date, you give up your right to receive compensation. You also give up your right to sue AT&T individually for these data breaches.
If you prefer to pursue your own lawsuit, you must opt out of the settlement by October 17, 2025.
When will AT&T settlement payments be sent out
Payments will not be made until after the court gives final approval. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas has scheduled the final approval hearing for December 3, 2025.
If there are no appeals, payments will begin to go out after that date. But the settlement website warns that it will take time to process all claims. “It also takes time to process all claim forms. Please be patient,” the notice explains.
What happens if you do nothing
If you do nothing, you will not receive a settlement payment. You will also lose the right to take AT&T to court on your own for these breaches. That is why it is important to check your eligibility and submit your claim if you were affected.
