An everyday shopping trip turns unusual

A regular shopping trip in North Carolina turned out to be a special adventure for one family. Julia Stultz and her son were shopping at a Walmart in Charlotte. Like most parents would do, she was shopping in the kids’ apparel department when something unusual happened. Her son found an envelope lying on the ground.

At first, Julia believed that it was something of a waste that had been rejected by someone. Yet when she got hold of it, she was able to realize right away that it was something far more meaningful.

A heartwarming message inside

There was a small note on the front of the envelope: “With love, Amen.” On the back, there was another heartfelt message that stated: “If this card reached you, open it. It’s yours. God is blessing you constantly.”

When Julia opened the envelope, she was amazed to find five $20 bills — $100. Accompanying the money was a handwritten note. The note said: “May this gift bring you a little peace today. Someday, please pass it on to someone else. May God’s blessings be with you always! Your friend.”

This little but so profound gesture of kindness rendered Julia wordless.

A moment of gratitude

Julia explained the encounter afterwards to Queen City News. She explained how the act touched her heart so deeply. She had no idea who the kind stranger was and probably never will, but was grateful for the reminder that there is still good in the world.

” It was something totally unexpected,” Julia said. “But it reminded us that there is still good in the world.”

Her act soon became familiar to everyone in the community, and a lot of people were moved by the realization that someone would take the time to brighten the day of a stranger.

Response from others

A few other people who happened to be in the Walmart at the time also responded. One man, Akili Omari, had this comment about being moved by the story.

I always wondered if such things happen in the world,” he said. “And I always said that if I do get a chance to pay such a favor back, I definitely would.”

His statements reflected the way one act of kindness can inspire others to do the same.

Kindness beyond Walmart

This is not an isolated incident of anonymous kindness producing an effect. On social media, the same thing is monitored on a daily basis.

On TikTok, a user by the name of @wherestayo posted to her audience about how she came across a homeless man who was trying to squat in a vacant apartment in her building. Instead of calling the police or just leaving him alone, she chose to be nice.

She asked him to sit down on her porch and made him a burrito. She even treated him to an Uber trip to get him where he needed to be. Her simplicity, which wasn’t all that complicated, regained dignity and hope for the man.

A reminder of the power of small acts

Both the Walmart envelope and the TikTok post demonstrate the power of small acts of kindness. One kind act of a stranger leaving $100 with a note stating “love” affected — not only Julia and her son — but hundreds of others who learned the story.

It’s a reminder that kindness can be small and uncomplicated. Sometimes it’s something as simple as serving someone in our community, taking a meal to a stranger, or leaving an encouraging note.

These acts of kindness remind us that compassion and empathy have not died from our everyday routine. They remind us that even in the world so busy, kindness can cause us to come to a halt and make us want to pay it forward.
