Burlington’s big expansion: New stores coming to 19 states

If you’re a fan of Burlington’s treasure-hunt shopping experience, you’re in luck — the retailer is launching a wave of grand openings across the U.S. Over the next several weeks, Burlington will cut ribbons on dozens of new locations in 19 different states, bringing its famous off-price deals to even more neighbourhoods.

Burlington — which started in 1972 as Burlington Coat Factory in Burlington, New Jersey — has come a long way from its factory-store roots. Between 1973 and 1982, it added just 29 stores. Today, it has more than 1,000 locations nationwide and continues to grow aggressively.

From coats to everything under the sun

Although winter coats were once its bread and butter, modern Burlington stores are much more than that. Think brand-name clothing, shoes, home décor, and beauty products at steep discounts — often up to 60% off department-store prices. The retailer’s strategy is simple: combine everyday essentials with exciting “finds” so customers never know what bargains await around the next corner.

This expansion mirrors a broader trend: shoppers are increasingly drawn to off-price chains like TJ Maxx and Marshalls, where inventory changes frequently and prices undercut traditional department stores. Burlington is capitalizing on this demand with an ambitious schedule of openings.
