Ford recalls over 280,000 vehicles, including F-150 and Bronco models, due to safety concerns

Ford Motor Company has issued a series of recalls affecting more than 280,000 vehicles, with prominent models like the Ford Bronco and F-150 among those flagged for critical safety issues. These recalls underscore persistent quality control challenges for the automaker, which has initiated 40 recalls in 2025 alone-more than triple the number of its closest competitor. The most recent recalls solve issues from malfunctioning camera systems to absent safety stickers, representing varied manufacturing and engineering blunders.

Ford Bronco recall: Rear view camera failures cause safety concerns

The 2022–2023 Ford Bronco accounts for the majority of the recalls, with 128,889 vehicles recalled for malfunctioning 360-degree and rearview camera systems. There will be intermittent blue or black screens when reversing mode is entered, eliminating visibility critical to safe reverse procedures. The reason is corrosion on internal connectors, tin oxide buildup, or out-of-spec terminals in the camera assembly.

Ford attributes the problem to supplier-related defects, including a faulty solder reflow oven and unauthorized modifications to printed circuit board (PCB) tooling. To resolve the issue, dealerships will replace affected cameras with updated versions featuring gold-plated connectors and improved alignment tolerances. Notification letters are slated for distribution once replacement parts become available, with repairs offered free of charge.

Ford F-150 recall: Missing airbag warning labels trigger compliance violations

A lesser but considerable recall is for 326 model-year 2025 Ford F-150 pickup trucks manufactured between April 4 and April 8, 2025. They lack a federally mandated airbag warning sticker inside the dashboard that warns children to not sit up front in the event of airbag deployment. The oversight was the result of a malfunctioning network cable at Ford’s Dearborn facility, which did not flag it during quality inspection.

Although the nameplate is not affecting the function of the vehicles, it is a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #208 and needs to be corrected. The letters will be mailed to the owners and they will install them. Dealers will put the labels on any unsold units. Simple though this recall may be, it represents deep-seated production line flaws that underly Ford’s larger quality issues.

Other recalls: Expedition, navigator, super duty trucks

Beyond the Bronco and F-150, Ford’s recall sweep includes 160,729 older models, such as the 2015 Ford Expedition, F-250/F-350/F-450 Super Duty trucks, and 2015 Lincoln Navigator and MKC SUVs. These vehicles exhibit rearview camera failures caused by fretting corrosion on terminal headers or faulty PCB components, leading to blank or distorted images. Similar to the Bronco fix, dealers will replace camera gratis, with notifications mailed starting May 5.

Another standalone recall affects 24,655 model-year 2025 Ford Explorers with 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines. The powertrain control module (PCM) software error can cause spontaneous resets when driving, potentially leading to engine stalls or transmission problems. Repairs will consist of either PCM software updates or hardware replacement, as indicated above, to take place by late May 2025.

The recent recalls continue Ford’s concerning trend in 2025, with the company responsible for 40 recalls up to April-more than double Volkswagen’s 12. Experts blame it on aggressive cost-cutting and excessive dependency on intricate electronic systems vulnerable to component failures. The Bronco’s camera problems, for example, echo previous recalls due to poor supplier parts, while the F-150 label omission reflects breakdowns in end-of-line inspection procedures.

Recommendations for affected owners

Owners of recalled vehicles should:

  • Verify inclusion via Ford’s VIN lookup tool or the NHTSA database.
  • Await official notification by mail, which outlines repair timelines and procedures.
  • Schedule free repairs at authorized dealerships once parts are available.

Ford has pledged to cover all repair costs, though parts shortages may delay resolutions for some models. Proactive monitoring of recall statuses is advised, as unresolved defects could compromise safety or resale value.
