What’s happening?
The United States has recalled more than one million vehicles from Ford, Lincoln, Dodge, Ram, and Chevrolet. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued multiple recall notices between August 25 and August 31, 2025.
These recalls cover brakes, lights, cameras, airbags, and other safety parts. All repairs will be made free of charge by dealerships.
Vehicle owners can check for recalls by using the NHTSA recall search tool online or entering their vehicle identification number (VIN) into USA TODAY’s recall database.
Ford and Lincoln brake problem
Ford recalled certain 2016–2018 Lincoln MKX and 2015–2018 Ford Edge vehicles. These cars may have a rear brake hose that can rupture and leak fluid.
- What drivers may notice: a softer brake pedal and the brake warning light turning on.
- What’s being done: Ford is still developing a fix.
- When owners will be notified: safety letters will be mailed on September 8, 2025. A follow-up letter with the final repair will come in April 2026.
- Vehicles affected: 499,129.
Ford trucks and software issues
Certain 2025 F-150 trucks and 2025–2026 Super Duty trucks (F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550) may have instrument panels that fail to turn on when starting the vehicle.
- Cause: a software problem in “sleep mode.”
- Repair: software update at dealerships or over-the-air update, free of charge.
- Owner letters sent: September 2, 2025.
- Vehicles affected: 355,656.
Dodge and ram rearview camera recall
2019–2021 Ram ProMaster vans and 2019–2020 Dodge Journey SUVs have faulty rearview cameras that may fail to display an image.
- Cause: cracks in the camera’s microprocessor.
- Repair: dealers will replace the camera at no cost.
- Owner letters mailed: September 30, 2025.
- Vehicles affected: 219,577.
Ford explorer and aviator trailer light issue
Certain 2025 Ford Explorer and 2025 Lincoln Aviator SUVs may have trailer tail lights that don’t illuminate.
- Other possible issues: power window switches, mirrors, air conditioning, lights, horns, defrost, and USB ports may stop working.
- Repair: replace or test the body control module.
- Owner letters mailed: October 13, 2025.
- Vehicles affected: 213,121.
Ford Mustang light recall
2024–2025 Ford Mustangs may have exterior lights that fail due to water leaking into the body control module.
- Repair: inspect, seal body seams, and replace the control module if needed.
- Owner letters mailed: September 1, 2025.
- Final fix available: first quarter of 2026.
- Vehicles affected: 105,441.
Ford Ranger airbag recall
2024–2026 Ford Ranger trucks may have side curtain airbags that can tear when deployed.
- Repair: Dealers will install protective shields.
- Owner letters mailed: September 8, 2025.
- Final fix letters: December 2025.
- Vehicles affected: 100,900.
Chevrolet Corvette fire risk
2023–2026 Chevrolet Corvettes may leak fuel while refuelling, posing a fire risk.
- Repair: Dealers will install a shield to redirect spilled fuel.
- Owner letters mailed: October 6, 2025.
- Vehicles affected: 23,656.
