Amazon Prime members are receiving an advance Independence Day gift this year with significant fuel savings just ahead of the extended holiday weekend driving season. The nation’s retail powerhouse’s limited period promotion from July 3-6 saves $1 per gallon for up to 35 gallons at participating gas stations nationwide.
The early prime day gas promotion
Limited-time gasoline savings is the biggest promotion to date for Amazon, carefully tailored to enable members to save money during this Fourth of July weekend when approximately million Americans are expected to travel. The savings begin on Thursday, July 3 and extend to Sunday, July 6, right over the holiday travel weekend.
Prime members get $1 per gallon off a one-gallon fuel buy up to 35 gallons at over 7,500 BP, Amoco, and cooperating AM/PM sites nationwide. The promotion is well-timed as it is an early offer for Amazon’s record-breaking four-day Prime Day sale July 8-11.
How the savings program works
To redeem such savings, Prime members are required to connect their Amazon account with BP’s Earnify loyalty program. This installation is a one-off installation that is in the form of visiting amazon.com/fuelsavings or searching “fuel savings” on the Amazon Prime app.
Setup Needed:
- Sign-up or login into an Earnify account (BP’s loyalty program)
- Connecting the Earnify account to your Amazon Prime membership
- Using the connected phone number, payment method, or the Earnify app at participating fuel stops
Redemption process
At the pump, members can redeem their savings by:
- Entering their linked phone number at the pump
- Scanning the Earnify app at checkout
- Using an associated payment method that has been linked to their accounts
The discount automatically applies after account linking, with no further actions needed after the initial setup.
Financial impact for travelers
The financial saving varies significantly based on the fuel tank size of a car. For regular drivers who own an average sedan with a 15-gallon tank, the weekend special gets back $15 per fill-up. However, for pickup truck or full-size SUV owners who have 25-gallon tanks, there is a chance to save $25 on their initial fill-up.
Current gas price context
The timing of this promotion is well with positive gas market conditions. Based on the latest statistics available, the national average price of gas is $3.17 per gallon as of July 3, 2025. This is down $0.05 from last week’s average price of $3.22. More importantly, current prices are $0.27 lower than the same time last year when gas averaged $3.44 per gallon.
GasBuddy is forecasting gas prices to be pretty steady this holiday weekend of the July 4th holiday, at a $3.15-per-gallon average. That would translate to Prime members taking advantage of the deal being able to pay essentially something around $2.15 per gallon while it’s still valid.
Outside the holiday weekend
- Daily Savings Program: Amazon’s gas savings program begins with the July 4th offer. Amazon Prime members who connect their accounts still receive 10 cents off a gallon per day at participating BP, Amoco, and AM/PM locations. The per-day feature consists of 5 cents from Earnify and 5 cents from Amazon Prime for the combined discount.
- Increased Friday Savings: In addition, Prime members will be given 20 cents per gallon discounts on Fridays at partner outlets, 5 cents of which will come from Amazon and an additional 5 cents from Earnify that will be included in the discount price.
- Projected Annual Savings: Amazon projects that Prime members will save close to $70 annually from the continuous fuel savings program. This is about half the cost of an annual Prime membership, which costs $139 annually or $14.99 on a monthly plan.
Travel volume and market effect
The promotion occurs while record figures for Americans are preparing to travel during the July 4th holiday. AAA estimates that 72.2 million Americans will go on a 50-mile or longer trip during June 28-July 6, an increase of 1.7 million travelers compared to last year. Of all the travelers, 61.6 million will be in vehicles.
This enormous travel volume, combined with Amazon’s enormous Prime membership of more than 184 million members, makes the gas savings program poised to have a meaningful impact in the market during travel’s peak season.
Participating station network
The promotion is accessible at more than 7,500 BP, Amoco, and AM/PM stations across the country. BP’s Earnify program, which was introduced in 2024, has been quickly rolled out to include the vast majority of BP and Amoco locations, as well as TravelCenters of America, Petro, and TA Express locations with BP or Amoco fueling areas.
The network will grow even larger, with some AM/PM locations joining in 2024 and Thorntons’ network in 2025.
