If you are a Target shopper, there is good news coming your way. The company is making it easier for you to get your orders faster by expanding its next-day delivery service to more U.S. cities. This move is part of Target’s plan to stay competitive in a market where speed and convenience matter more than ever.

What cities are getting target next-day delivery

Target announced that by the end of October, shoppers in 35 additional metro areas will have access to next-day delivery. Some of the new locations include:

  • Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Cleveland, Ohio
  • Kansas City, Missouri
  • Orlando, Florida
  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  • San Diego, California
  • St. Louis, Missouri
  • Tampa, Florida

And that is not all. The company also shared that it plans to add 20 more metro areas in 2026. If your city is not on the list yet, there is a chance it could be added soon.

How target delivery compares to amazon and walmart

When it comes to delivery, the competition is tough. Amazon, for example, has expanded its same-day delivery service to more than 140 metro areas and continues to grow. Walmart said it delivered 7.1 billion items using same-day or next-day delivery in the past year, reaching about 95% of the U.S.

Target is catching up by improving its services:

  • Same-day delivery now covers about 80% of the U.S. population
  • Two-day shipping is available to 99% of the country
  • Free store pickup and drive-up are available for online orders

So while Amazon and Walmart may have a wider reach, Target is making progress quickly. For you, this means more choice in how and when you shop.

Why target is expanding next-day delivery

The timing of this expansion is important. Target has faced weak sales recently, with its net income dropping 21% in the latest quarter. Comparable sales have also been flat or declining in eight of the last ten quarters.

Expanding next-day delivery is one way Target hopes to bring shoppers back. Gretchen McCarthy, Target’s chief supply chain and logistics officer, explained that the company is focusing on using its stores and fulfillment centers more effectively. In her words:

“I think about us moving from this national fulfillment model to this market-based approach,” she said.

In other words, Target is looking at ways to serve each community faster without losing money in the process.

What this means for target shoppers

For you, the shopper, this expansion means:

  • Faster access to the products you need
  • More flexibility in how you get your orders
  • Less waiting time compared to traditional shipping

It also gives you one more reason to stick with Target instead of choosing Amazon or Walmart for certain purchases. Whether you are ordering household essentials, clothing, or groceries, next-day delivery can make life a little easier.

Is target delivery free

It is worth noting that while store pickup and drive-up options remain free, delivery fees may vary depending on your order and location. Target often promotes its membership services, like Shipt, which offers free same-day delivery for members on qualifying orders. If you shop often, that could save you money in the long run.
