On August 14, 2025, a major safety recall was initiated regarding around 56,300 Remington hair dryers that were sold only through online channels, including Walmart Marketplace, Target Marketplace, and Amazon. The recall was announced by Empower Brands in tandem with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) due to a severe risk of electrocution that the product posed.

The risk involved

The recalled hair dryers do not have an immersion protection device, which is an important safeguard that shuts off or stops the electrocution hazard when the hair dryer drops into water while plugged in. Without that protection, it could lead to severe injury or death if such an accident takes place.

Which models are affected?

The model of the affected hair dryer is Remington D3190DCDN. Other characteristics of the units include:

  • Color: Purple with black accents
  • Features: Three black operating buttons on the handles
  • Branding: “Remington” in white text on the sides
  • Dimensions: Usually no greater than 8.5 inches long, 11.6 inches high, and 3.6 inches wide
  • Weight: About 1.5 pounds

Only the hair dryers sold between March 2024 and June 2025 via the abovementioned online channels are part of the recall. The prices of the hair dryers ranged between $25 and $32.

Where did the hair dryers sell?

The hair dryers were only sold online and included:

  • Walmart Marketplace
  • Target Marketplace
  • Amazon

What should consumers do?

CPSC and Empower Brands call on every consumer that owns that recalled Remington model D3190DCDN to:

  • Unplug and stop the use of the hair dryer with immediate effect
  • Call Empower Brands requesting a full refund

For the purposes of getting a refund, the consumers will need to take a photo of the hair dryer with its power cord cut in half to prove that the device has been disabled and send it to the company’s recall registration portal at https://www.remingtonproducts.com/product-recalls?utm_source=perplexity.

In conjunction with submitting the photo, the consumers are advised to follow the disposal directions as described on the website to ensure safe disposal of the item and to prevent use by others.

How to reach Empower Brands

Customers that would like to get extra information or assistance can do any of the following:

  • Dial the toll-free number: 1-844-695-2134
  • Send the email to Empower Brands through the contact details on the recall website.

Reports and incident status By the time of this announcement for recalling the devices, no injuries or incidents had been reported with regard to the recalled hair dryers. But it is the seriousness of the risk as put out by the CPSC that would work to preempt any such future harm.

Why is immersion protection important?

An immersion protection device will cut off the electric current in case submerged in water. This safety feature is of particular importance for hairdryers because:

  • Hairdryers are used in bathrooms where there is a water source.
  • Accidental falls of electrical devices might create a hazardous condition.
  • No immersion protection can increase the risk of electric shocks not only to the end users but potentially also to others nearby.

This recall signals the need for always adhering to modern safety regulations regarding electrical house appliances. Consumers purchasing this model would need to take swift action to guard against any possible danger.

This recall should remind everyone that consumers need to always be alert about product safety and the role of regulatory bodies like the CPSC in promoting public health. Safety checking for electric household appliances will be done, and speedy recall notice response awaits.
