Various carmakers initiate recalls as NHTSA alerts over safety risks
Various carmakers are issuing major recalls on several models of cars, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reporting safety risks due to steering, cameras, software, and electrical systems. One among them, Honda, issued a recall that particularly affects its Acura RDX, which has been under scrutiny with regard to potential power steering failure.
Ford: Fault in the rearview camera in over 1 million cars
Ford is recalling about 1.4 million vehicles after it was reported that rearview cameras won’t work as they should, raising the possibility of accidents. The models that are affected span several years and include the Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-Series Super Duty trucks, Edge, and Ranger.
Although no injuries have occurred, the defective cameras will be replaced at no cost to owners by Ford dealerships. Owners will begin receiving notice letters on September 22, and VINs are already available to search in the NHTSA database.
Mazda: Fuel Gauge Malfunctions in Hybrid Vehicles
Mazda has also expressed concern with its hybrid offerings. Over 104,000 units, such as the 2024–2025 CX-90 and the 2025 CX-70 mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs), are being recalled by the manufacturer.
The problem lies with the fuel gauge, which may provide inaccurate readings. This would cause unexpected gas depletions, raising crash danger. Dealers will replace the body control module (BCM) at no charge, with owner letters mailed starting November 1.
Rivian: Outdated software in EVs
Electric vehicle producer Rivian is recalling 24,214 of its R1T and R1S vehicles after discovering a software defect in its Hands-Free Highway Assist system. The NHTSA reports that the outdated software could misinterpret other cars on the road, leading to accidents.
Rivian has already issued a complimentary over-the-air software update to correct the issue. Customers will also be mailed notices beginning November 4.
Honda: Power steering failure in the 2025 Acura RDX
Honda’s recall is attracting special attention due to its potential impact on motorists’ ability to operate their vehicles. The automaker has recalled 17,334 Acura RDX SUVs for the 2025 model year because of a power steering problem.
The defect can cause the system to activate the failsafe mode, necessitating drivers to apply a great deal of effort when steering. While no accidents or injuries from the issue have been reported by Honda, there is a high possibility of crashes happening.
Dealerships will reprogram the electric power steering system at no charge. Letters of notification will be sent on October 20, and owners can already check VINs by going to the NHTSA website. Honda’s campaign recall number is GMS.
Honda motorcycles: Handlebar switch defect
In a stand-alone recall, Honda is also addressing concerns in its motorcycle line. Honda is recalling 7,492 CRF1100 Africa Twin motorcycles from model years 2020-2022 and 2024-2025.
The issue relates to corrosion in the left handlebar switch, which controls the horn and high beams. The faulty switch assemblies will be replaced free of charge to dealers. Owners will be notified beginning November 3, with a second notice planned for January 30, 2026.
Ducati: Risk of rear axle breakage
Ducati recalled over 10,000 motorcycles because of a dangerous safety defect. The rear wheel axle in certain Panigale and Streetfighter bikes can break while driving, creating a high crash risk.
Dealers will replace the rear axle for free. Official notification will start on September 25 for Ducati owners.

What vehicle owners should do
The NHTSA encourages all owners of the affected cars to verify their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) using its online recall database. Owners are to be notified by automakers, but recall notices are often neglected by many consumers.
If your car is listed, the repairs will be done for free at authorized dealerships. For further assistance, owners can call their automaker’s customer service line.
