Hi there. I want to tell you about something important going on with JCPenney, the major department store company. They just announced that they’re closing one of their large warehouses in Texas and laying off nearly 300 workers.

This warehouse is called the Alliance Supply Chain facility, and it’s located in Haslet, Texas. According to official documents, it’s going to shut down permanently around November 1, 2025. Because of that, up to 296 employees will lose their jobs.

Why is JCPenney doing this?

JCPenney hasn’t explained exactly why they are closing this specific facility. But the company did say the decision is part of their plan to become stronger and more competitive. They said it wasn’t an easy choice to make.

A spokesperson for the company said they appreciate everything the workers have done and that JCPenney is offering support to help them during this tough time. That includes things like severance pay and possibly benefits. A few workers might even get the chance to move to other JCPenney locations.

This isn’t the first time JCPenney has closed stores

This is just the latest step in a bigger downsizing process. Back in 2020, JCPenney filed for bankruptcy, which means they were in serious financial trouble. Since then, they’ve been closing stores across the country.

In May 2025, they closed seven more stores that weren’t doing well. Now, the closure of this Texas warehouse is the next big move.

What Kinds of Jobs Are Being Cut?

The layoffs aren’t just for one type of job. Workers in many roles will be affected, including:

  • Jewelers
  • Supply chain managers
  • Mechanics
  • Electricians

These are people who help keep the warehouse running smoothly, and now they will have to look for new jobs.

When Will the Layoffs Happen?

The layoffs will come in two waves:

  • First wave: 42 employees will lose their jobs between August 1 and August 14
  • Second wave: 254 employees will be let go between November 1 and November 14

The company has already told everyone who is affected.

Can these workers get other jobs at JCPenney?

It’s possible—but not guaranteed. Letters sent to the workers made it clear that they don’t have the automatic right to take over other jobs that are already filled at different JCPenney locations.

What happens now?

For the workers, this will be a difficult few months. Losing a job can be very hard, especially when it happens all at once like this. While JCPenney says it’s doing what it can to help, many employees will have to search for new work in other places.

If you or someone you know works for JCPenney, now is a good time to ask about support services or look into local job programs.
