TJX Widens Its Footprint While Retailers Struggle
While many big retail chains are shutting up shop, one retailer is heading in the opposite direction. TJX Companies, the parent of Marshalls and HomeGoods, is expanding its brick-and-mortar stores aggressively across the U.S., showing confidence in its off-price department-store concept.
For consumers who like to hunt down bargains or redecorate their homes on a budget, this expansion is welcome news. Marshalls and HomeGoods are opening 14 new stores combined in October and November of 2025, giving consumers even more opportunities to get brand-name products for pennies on the dollar.
In mid-September 2025, HomeGoods operated about 955 locations across the country, and Marshalls had more than 1,100 stores in the country. Both these brands are part of the prosperous family of TJX, including T.J. Maxx and Sierra as well.

Why TJX stores keep thriving
While other stores rely on internet sales, TJX has prospered by offering an experience that can’t be duplicated in cyberspace — the thrill of discovery. Consumers never know exactly what they’re going to find, which makes them come back.
TJX executives have indicated that customer demand for low-cost, name-branded products remains robust despite inflation that has been affecting household budgets. Marshalls and HomeGoods, through store growth, are attempting to satisfy that demand and reach new markets.
A bright spot for U.S. retail
In an era when many chains are retrenching, Marshalls and HomeGoods keep showing that shopping the old-fashioned way is not on its deathbed. Their continued expansion is evidence that the appetite for discount luxury — and thrill over an in-store search — is strong.
For value-conscious consumers and home decor lovers, these new store openings are just one more reason to load a shopping cart and wait and see what treasures are in store.
