National egg recall triggers alert
A national health alert has been issued in the U.S. following the eggs that are linked to a possibly life-threatening Salmonella outbreak that has infected tens of people. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed so far 14 states where the infected eggs have affected 95 people. Although no one passed away, 18 patients were hospitalised, proving how grave this contamination is.
The eggs were produced by Country Eggs, LLC and distributed under the brand names Sunshine Yolks and Omega-3 Golden Yolk. Officials state that the true number of sick people may be higher since many recover from their illness at home without visiting a doctor.
Which eggs are recalled?
The recalled eggs were shipped from June 16 to July 9 in California and Nevada. The recall also involves cartons with Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, and Nijiya Markets labels with sell-by dates between July 1 and September 18, 2025.
We ask that all of you check your refrigerators thoroughly. If you receive a recalled carton, do not eat it. Instead, get rid of it as soon as possible to prevent any chance of infection.
What is Salmonella, and why is it dangerous?
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that primarily attacks the intestines. It can be caused by contaminated food or water. Symptoms take 6 to 72 hours to manifest after infection and may feature:
- Diarrhea
- Stomach cramps
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Chills and headache
- Blood in stool
Most normal individuals are finished with it within a few days to one week, but diarrhoea will occasionally linger for 10 days. But young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems have a higher likelihood of developing a bad case.
When to see a doctor
Call your doctor if you experience:
- Diarrhea for more than three days
- Fever over 102°F
- Bloody stools
- Symptoms of dehydration include dizziness, a dry mouth, or reduced urine production
CDC further advises cleaning and disinfecting any surface, spoon, or container that has come into contact with the affected eggs. Proper hygiene will restrict your chances of contracting Salmonella at home.
The scope of the outbreak
The illnesses have been reported in 14 states, according to the report, including North Carolina, where two patients have been hospitalised. Because the testing was delayed, the new illnesses may not yet be accounted for, officials caution. The multistate outbreak is under investigation, and officials continue to follow up on the source and distribution of the contaminated eggs.
This isn’t the first recall of eggs from this supplier. In August 2025, the FDA recalled Sunshine Yolk Large Brown Cage-Free eggs for the same reason: Salmonella contamination.
Keep yourself and your family safe
To stay safe:
- Check all egg cartons in your home for the recalled brands and lot numbers.
- Discard any of the recalled eggs.
- Wash hands, kitchen counters, and utensils well after handling eggs.
- Put yourself and members of your household under observation for signs and visit a doctor if they develop.
Salmonella outbreaks are dangerous, but you will prevent illness by acting fast. You can safely continue eating eggs after you have safely taken the affected products off the shelves in your home with careful handling and precautions.
