A voluntary recall for undeclared wheat, which is a major allergen in Hans Kissle potato salad, has been made. Health organizations mapped out the warning across the five states into which the product had been distributed. Consumers suffering from wheat allergies or sensitivities are, therefore, urged to check their refrigerators for the containers and return them to get their money fully refunded.

Recall overview and warning map

The 5th of August 2025 announcement by Hans Kissle, a prepared-foods manufacturer in Massachusetts, about recalls of 66 units of Red Potato Bliss Salad packaged in 16 ounces clear plastic containers. The warning map highlights Stop & Shop retail locations in:

  • Massachusetts
  • Rhode Island
  • Connecticut
  • New Jersey
  • New York

These states received the mislabeled products, thus forming the complete geographic scope of this recall.

Labeling mix-up and allergen danger

The recall is due to a labeling mistake: the lids of containers of Hans Kissle Tri Color Twist Pasta Salad-an item which contains wheat-were incorrectly fitted with top labels identifying them as Red Potato Bliss Salad. While the front-facing label correctly names the product as pasta salad, the lid’s label misrepresents it as a potato salad, omitting any declaration of wheat.

Because wheat is one of the nine major food allergens recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), its undeclared presence poses a serious or life-threatening risk to consumers with wheat allergies or severe sensitivities.

Details of affected product

  • Product: Hans Kissle Red Potato Bliss Salad (mislabeled)
  • Actual Contents: Tri Color Twist Pasta Salad (contains wheat)
  • Package Size: 16 oz clear plastic container with white snap-on lid
  • UPC Code: 036217673706
  • Use-by Date: 8/20/25 (printed on top lid)
  • Units Recalled: 66

In deciding whether they have purchased an affected product, consumers should check the UPC code and use-by date on the lid. Although the front label on the container reads “Tri Color Twist Pasta Salad,” the top label has been misidentified as “Hans Kissle Red Bliss Potato Salad.”

Distribution and retailer involvement

All recalled units were distributed exclusively to Stop & Shop retail locations in the five states listed above. Hans Kissle worked with Stop & Shop to notify store managers and remove any remaining units from sale once the error was discovered. Customers who bought the product are urged not to consume it but rather return it to any Stop & Shop for a full refund.

To date, no illnesses or adverse events have been recorded with this recall. However, when undeclared wheat might be in a product, the FDA warns that it can cause serious allergic reactions in people with wheat allergies. Wheat allergy symptoms may include hives, swelling, trouble breathing, and in extreme cases anaphylaxis.

Consumer guidance steps

The following are the recommendations by Hans Kissle and regulatory authorities for consumers:

  • Check the refrigerators for 16 oz containers marked with UPC 036217673706 and Use-By 8/20/25.
  • Verify that the container front label reads “Tri Color Twist Pasta Salad” while the lid reads “Red Bliss Potato Salad.”
  • Refrain from eating the product under any circumstances.
  • Return the affected container to the place of purchase (Stop & Shop), and receive a full refund.

For questions or concerns, consumers can contact the customer care numbers of Hans Kissle between Monday to Friday at 978-556-4500 between 8AM to 5PM EST.

Public response from company and FDA involvement

Hans Kissle voluntarily recalled the item as a result of mislabeling discovered after an internal quality-control check. The FDA has posted a safety alert about the event on its website as it continues working with the company. The FDA will also take part in investigating the recall progress and any emerging health risks.

If any additional information arises, this section will still be updated in the FDA’s Report on Enforcement and Recall Alerts. Consumers may also subscribe to get timely information on other recalls from the FDA through the internet.

This recall is a clear signal of the sensitive and critical nature of exact labeling, especially with undeclared allergens attached. Relevant consumers that may live in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York must watch for affected Hans Kissle salad containers and return all units fitting the criteria for recall. Such action may be slightly delayed, but it will save lives and prevent a lot of risk or danger within these communities, especially allergic reactions that could be instead very dangerous.
