If you shop at Walmart, there is some good news for your wallet. Walmart has confirmed that it is rolling out 7,400 price rollbacks across its stores, giving shoppers savings on thousands of items. According to CEO Doug McMillon, that is about 2,000 more price cuts than the retailer offered in the last quarter.
These savings are aimed especially at groceries, which have been a big driver of Walmart’s growth. In fact, grocery sales at Walmart jumped by 30 percent compared to the same time last year, as shoppers continue to look for affordable options on essentials.
The company says the goal is to offset higher costs caused by tariffs and other economic pressures, while keeping prices as low as possible.
Why Walmart is lowering prices right now
Walmart is not just making small changes. The company’s U.S. sales hit $120.9 billion in the second quarter, up about $5.6 billion from last year. Executives credit much of that growth to groceries and health products, which families are prioritizing.
At the same time, Walmart has had to raise prices slightly in areas like toys and baby gear. But as CFO John David Rainey explained:
“We said we would play offense to keep prices as low as we can for as long as we can, and that is what we are doing.”
So, while some non-essentials may cost more, Walmart is betting that deep grocery discounts will keep customers loyal.

Which Walmart stores are being remodeled
Alongside the price cuts, Walmart has also confirmed that it is remodeling about 240 stores during this fiscal quarter. This is part of a larger plan to modernize more than 650 locations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico this year.
If one of your local stores is being remodeled, you can expect some noticeable changes, including:
- Wider aisles for easier movement
- Better displays and product selection
- Updated pharmacy areas with private consultation rooms
- Expanded eyewear options at vision centers
- More digital screens and self-service options
- Energy-efficient equipment to cut costs and reduce environmental impact
This remodeling is part of Walmart’s “Store of the Future” concept, which aims to make shopping faster, easier, and more modern for you.
What walmart means by the “store of the future”
Starting in 2024, Walmart began experimenting with a new look and feel inside its stores. The idea is to combine in-store shopping with digital conveniences so that you get the best of both worlds.
For example, Walmart has improved its online pickup and delivery systems, now offering store-fulfilled delivery in under three hours to over 93 percent of U.S. households. This makes it possible for you to shop online and still get your groceries and essentials quickly without paying high fees.
The remodeling also includes digital touchpoints throughout the store, helping customers find products, check prices, and even reorder items directly.

New credit card program coming soon
Walmart is also preparing to launch a new credit card called the One Pay Cash Rewards Credit Card later this year.
Here is what cardholders can expect:
- 3% unlimited cashback on Walmart purchases
- 5% cashback for Walmart+ members
- 1.5% cashback on purchases made outside of Walmart
The company says the card will be available before the holidays, which could be a big draw for frequent Walmart shoppers.
How walmart is using artificial intelligence
Another big update involves Sparky, Walmart’s AI-powered assistant in the Walmart app. Doug McMillon said customers are already responding well to it, and the company plans to make Sparky “even smarter and more personalized.”
The goal is for Sparky to help you manage reorders, handle returns, and discover new products. According to Walmart, it will eventually become the main digital tool for shopping and customer service.
