Starbucks fans, get ready — your morning latte is about to get a major upgrade. Beginning September 29, every Starbucks in the U.S. and Canada will launch Protein Lattes and Protein Cold Foam, adding a new way to fuel your day.

What’s new on the menu?

Starbucks announced that its new Protein Lattes will be made with protein-boosted milk and will have 15 to 36 grams of protein per Grande (16 oz.) drink. That’s a serious boost for anyone who wants their caffeine and protein in one cup.

And it’s not just lattes getting the protein treatment. The chain is also adding Protein Cold Foam — a light, creamy topping you can add to any cold drink. Flavours will include:

  • Banana
  • Sugar-free vanilla
  • Chocolate
  • And more options are rolling out soon.

Want extra protein in your go-to drink? Starbucks says you can request protein milk in lattes, Iced Shaken Espressos, and even Coconut Milk Refreshers.

Why Starbucks is doing this

Tressie Leiberman, Starbucks’ global chief brand officer, said the new drinks are part of Starbucks’ strategy to modernise its menu. “Our new protein beverages tap into the growing demand for protein in a premium and delicious way that only Starbucks can deliver,” she said.

Starbucks knows customers are looking for healthier, functional options without giving up flavor. This move fits perfectly with that trend — think of it as a latte with a little extra muscle.

Still want your pumpkin fix?

If you’re more into pumpkin spice than protein, don’t worry — Starbucks’ fall menu is already here. Returning favourites include:

  • The Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) — the superstar drink since 2003.
  • Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew
  • Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai
  • Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte

The PSL is still available hot, iced, or blended. It’s made with real pumpkin, warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, espresso, and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice. Basically, autumn in a cup.

New drinks and snacks, too

Along with the Protein Lattes and fall favourites, Starbucks is adding a Pecan Oatmilk Cortado, a rich, smooth drink made with ristretto shots of Blonde Espresso and steamed milk. On the food side, they’ve introduced an Italian Sausage Egg Bite, plus returning snacks like the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin and the adorable Raccoon Cake Pop.

What this means for your coffee run

Starting September 29, you’ll have more ways than ever to customise your Starbucks order. Want a PSL with protein milk? Go for it. Need your morning Iced Shaken Espresso with a banana-flavoured protein cold foam? Done.

Starbucks is betting big that customers want flavour and function in one cup — and if you’re already stopping for your caffeine fix, why not add a little extra fuel?

Whether you’re a gym-goer looking for a pre-workout drink or just someone who wants to stay full until lunch, Starbucks’ new Protein Lattes could be the perfect solution.
