Extra shopping hours for Sam’s Club members
Sundays at Sam’s Club will be unique now. Starting October 12, all Sam’s Club stores across the United States will officially open on Sundays for longer hours, offering members more time to shop for groceries, home goods, and bulk purchases.
The retailer says they made this change in response to the overwhelming demand from members for more flexible shopping hours, particularly on weekends. With more than 600 stores in the nation, the warehouse chain maintains that the additional hours will be more convenient for shopping on weekends for millions of American families.
Steven Zapata, director of corporate communications at Sam’s Club, verified in an email to USA Today that the new schedule would take effect this weekend at all U.S. clubs. “Members told us they wished to have more time to shop on Sundays, and we listened,” he said.
A look at the new Sunday schedule
Sam’s Club stores formerly opened on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. and closed at 6:00 p.m. Beginning October 12, however, stores will stay open two hours later to catch the weekend surge.

Why Sam’s Club is making the change
The added Sunday hours come on the heels of a time of strong growth for the retailer. Revenues at Sam’s Club have increased over 50% over the past five years, even without including dozens of newly opened warehouses, Barron’s reports. By focusing on convenience and digital tools, such as “Scan & Go” and curbside pickups, the retailer has emerged as a favourite among price-conscious shoppers and time-conscious consumers.
Statistics from Placer.ai also indicate that traffic at Sam’s Club has increased consistently since 2019, which indicates that the chain’s model of offering low prices and member benefits is successful.
Sam’s Club is owned by Walmart, the world’s largest retailer. Sam’s Club generates substantial revenue for Walmart in terms of membership fees, sales of bulk items, and discounts on gasoline—making it a vital component of Walmart’s business model.
Holiday store hours will also be extended
The new hours aren’t the only holiday adjustment coming to Sam’s Club this year. In addition to the new holiday hours, the retailer also plans to remain open late on several shopping days so consumers can have more flexibility when stocking their gift, party, and grocery supplies.
The following holiday hours Sam’s Club is announcing are:
- Christmas Eve: Open until 6:00 p.m.
- New Year’s Eve: Open until 8:00 p.m.
- Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day: Closed
These changes are designed to assist members in missing the holiday rush at the last minute and having a more efficient shopping experience during the peak holiday period.
A move that works for members and the company
Extending Sunday hours could appear to be a small change, but it’s a broad win for consumers and Sam’s Club as well. Members now have more time to enjoy their rewards, whether it’s saving on gasoline, grabbing a snack in the café, or using the Scan & Go app and skipping the checkout lane.
For Sam’s Club, the late hours can fuel additional weekend business and capitalise on membership loyalty from consumers who value convenience. With holidays on the horizon, it’s an excellent move that positions the retailer for another strong shopping season.
