Tesla surprises new vehicle owners with an unsettling fact: “I decided not to keep it”

Many new Tesla buyers are discovering their vehicles sat outside for months before delivery — and they are not happy

If you recently ordered a Tesla, especially the much-hyped Cybertruck, you might be in for an unexpected and frustrating surprise. Some buyers are learning that their “brand new” Tesla has actually been sitting outside in a parking lot for months — exposed to sun, rain, dust, and more — before finally making its way to them.

Take Reza Soltani, for example. He ordered his Cybertruck on April 25 and was shocked to receive a pickup notification almost immediately. Curious about the fast turnaround, Soltani asked a Tesla rep for more details. That was when he found out his truck had left the factory all the way back on January 8. In other words, the truck had been sitting outside for over four months. As you might guess, Soltani declined to keep it. And he is not the only one.

Are Tesla cybertrucks really sitting outside for months?

Yes — and there is proof. According to reports from Techoreon, and confirmed by drone and satellite photographers, thousands of Cybertrucks are stockpiled in massive outdoor lots near Tesla’s production facilities. Some are waiting for delivery. Others? They are just sitting there, unsold.

Now imagine this: you are spending upwards of $80,000 on what you believe is a brand-new, pristine electric truck, only to find out it has been aging under the Texas sun since winter. It is no wonder some buyers feel shortchanged.

What does this say about Tesla’s cybertruck demand?

It is pretty clear — Tesla overestimated how many people were ready to buy the Cybertruck. The company went full throttle on production but quickly hit a wall when demand failed to match supply. In response, Tesla has slashed prices and is even trying to expand to international markets.

But here is the problem: even with discounts, a lot of potential buyers are hesitant. When customers learn their new truck might have already been sitting around for months, it raises red flags about quality and transparency.

Is this a bigger problem for Tesla?

Yes, and here is why: Tesla has built its brand on innovation, performance, and futuristic design — not cutting corners. So, when buyers start walking away from new deliveries because the cars are “weathered” before they even hit the road, it damages trust.

Think about it. Would you accept a brand-new iPhone that had been left on a store shelf for four months without climate control? Probably not. That is exactly how some Tesla customers are feeling right now — and they are starting to speak up.

What should you do if you ordered a Tesla recently?

If you are waiting on a Tesla delivery, especially a Cybertruck, you should definitely ask a few key questions before pickup:

  • When was the vehicle produced?
  • How long has it been sitting at a storage facility?
  • Has it been inspected or cleaned since production?

These questions might seem like a hassle, but they can help you avoid ending up with a vehicle that has already lost some of its shine — literally.

Tesla is still delivering cutting-edge technology, no doubt. But when customers are discovering that their “new” trucks have been sitting in open lots, it raises the bar for what they expect — and demand — moving forward.
