If you live in Florida, specifically near Melbourne, then you might want to mark July 10 on your calendar. That’s when Aldi will be opening its brand-new store at 961 E. Eau Gallie Blvd., which is right downtown in Melbourne. It’s opening in an old Winn-Dixie building and has already been generating a lot of buzz among Melbourne shoppers.
Why everyone’s talking about it
Residents are already abuzz. Even a resident posted on social media that Aldi has “the best croissants, better than Costco!” That’s big praise, particularly as Costco has a reputation for bakery goods. She started making roast beef sandwiches with the croissants from Aldi and said they are delicious and cheaper than purchasing from a sandwich shop.
This isn’t just about one store. It’s part of Aldi’s much bigger plan to grow all across the country.
Big plans for expansion
Aldi is a quickly growing grocery chain store in America. The company plans to open 225 new stores through 2025 and 800 more stores through 2028. That’s a lot of new stores! This month alone, Aldi is opening 10 new stores across six states, including Florida, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
The new Melbourne location will be the ninth Aldi location in Brevard County, and locals are already looking forward to shopping there.
A glimpse at the new store
Before the store officially opened, Aldi gave a sneak peek to some customers. They even performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new store is probably going to have the same low prices Aldi is known for, with many of the products being their in-store brand.
Most Aldi stores are smaller than average grocery stores, and over 90% of what they carry are Aldi-only brands. That keeps costs down, but also means you might not be able to get as many different brands as you can at other markets.
Aldi’s big Winn-Dixie deal
A big reason for all this growth is Aldi’s purchase of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations. Through this deal, Aldi gained about 400 new stores across states like Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida.
Some of those stores will stay under the Winn-Dixie name, while others will be turned into Aldi stores, just like the one in Melbourne. By 2027, Aldi hopes to have converted about 220 of those locations

What this means for you
If you live near Melbourne, this new Aldi could mean lower-priced groceries for you. Just be aware that the prices are great, but the store itself could be smaller and less sophisticated than you’re accustomed to.
Even with that said, if you’re someone who loves finding deals—and delicious croissants—this new Aldi might be an opportunity worth exploring.
