At Home, the home decor retailer, has officially confirmed that 30 of its stores will be closing on the last day of September. The move follows weeks after the company filed for bankruptcy, another major retail shake-up in the U.S.

A closing sale like no other

The stores’ final trading day will be September 30, but it won’t be one for a bargain hunter to wait for. At Home has already launched a storewide sale of closing-down stock with discounts up to 30 per cent.

From patio sets and lighting to wall art and seasonal merchandise, nearly everything in stock is on sale. The store referred to it as a “limited-time opportunity” for customers to find deals before products are sold out.

Liquidation experts from Hilco Consumer – Retail, the same ones who helped close Blockbuster, Toys R Us, and Bed Bath & Beyond, are managing the process. Their advice? Get it while it’s hot, because when the popular sellers are gone, they’re gone for good.

Why is at Home closing stores?

At Home filed for bankruptcy protection on June 16, owing just shy of $2 billion. A triple whammy of higher operating costs, reduced traffic, and careful consumer spending has come down hard on it.

Inflation boosted prices, and consumers worried about their own budgets, cut discretionary expenditures like home furnishings. Adding to the squeeze, tariffs charged on goods imported from China, where At Home sources most of its goods, contributed to the costs.

CEO Brad Weston said the company is “operating in the context of a rapidly evolving and fast-changing trade environment” but is optimistic about restructuring. The plan is to eliminate debt, consolidate operations, and eventually emerge with “new owners and a meaningfully strengthened balance sheet”.

Which stores are closing?

Following is the full list of 30 At Home stores closing September 30, 2025, in 15 states:

  • California – San Jose, Tustin, Costa Mesa, Pasadena, Chico, Foothill Ranch, Sacramento, Long Beach
  • Florida – North Miami

What this means for shoppers

The store closures are not the end for At Home as a company. The retailer will continue to be online and in other brick-and-mortar stores while reorganising. Consumers can still order, utilise loyalty rewards, and purchase discounted items at the closing stores until stock is gone.

Home has also secured $200 million in funding to remain in operation during the bankruptcy proceedings, so it will still have sufficient funds to pay vendors and employees as it restructures.

For shoppers, this means two things: bargains aplenty for now and possibly a slimmed-down, healthier At Home later on.

A familiar tale in retail

Home isn’t the only one that has failed. Retailers of all types, from Bed Bath & Beyond to small chains, have struggled in today’s retail environment. Rising costs, changing consumer patterns, and the growth of e-commerce have led several prominent brands into bankruptcy or reorganisation.

Still, At Home’s deep discounts are a silver lining for bargain hunters. If you’ve been eyeing patio furniture, holiday décor, or a major home refresh, this may be the last—and best—chance to buy from these locations before they close their doors for good.
