Are banks open on Juneteenth 2025? Is Juneteenth a Federal Holiday

What to expect from banks, post offices, UPS, and FedEx on Juneteenth 2025—and why the holiday is more than just a day off.

Hey there! If you’ve got a to-do list that includes going to the bank, mailing a package, or stopping by the post office, you might want to hold off, especially if that list lands on Thursday, June 19, 2025. That’s Juneteenth, and a lot of places will be taking the day off.

But don’t worry—I’ve got you covered with everything you need to know, in plain English.

So, what is Juneteenth again? Let’s start with the “why.”

Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth) marks a powerful moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that enslaved Black people were finally free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

It’s often called America’s second Independence Day, and starting in 2021, it became an official federal holiday. That means many federal offices, including post offices and most banks, now close in observance.

Are banks open on Juneteenth 2025?

In short? Nope. Most banks are closed.

Big-name banks like:

  • Bank of America
  • Wells Fargo
  • Chase
  • CitiBank
  • PNC
  • Truist
  • Capital One (their cafés might stay open, though!)

…will all be closed on Juneteenth. So, if you need to visit a teller, deposit a check in person, or talk to someone about your mortgage, it’s best to handle that before or after Thursday, June 19.

But don’t panic—you can still use ATMs and mobile apps for most everyday things like checking your balance or making transfers.

Will the post office be open? USPS says no.

The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver regular mail on Juneteenth, and post offices will be closed. That means no letters, no packages, no P.O. box pickups unless it’s Priority Mail Express—which runs every single day of the year, holidays included.

So, if you’ve got something urgent to send, go Express or wait until Friday.

What about UPS and FedEx?
Good news! These guys are staying open.

UPS will be open. You can still ship, track, and receive packages as usual. Most UPS Stores will be open too—just check your local store hours to be sure.

FedEx is also running like normal. Their pickup and delivery services will be working, and FedEx Office locations will be open for business.

Let’s wrap it up
To make your Juneteenth smooth and stress-free:

  • Banks – Closed
  • USPS – Closed (except Priority Express)
  • UPS & FedEx – Open and delivering

And remember—this day is more than just a day off or a closed sign. It’s a powerful time to reflect on freedom, justice, and progress.

So whether you’re relaxing, attending a community celebration, or just catching up on errands (the day before), now you know what’s open, what’s not, and why Juneteenth matters.
