More than 100 are dead and even more are missing after terrifying floods in Central Texas, the Hill Country. Just imagine: a foot or so of rain in less than 12 hours. Rivers rose more than 26 feet in 45 minutes. Houses and cars were destroyed. Families were left with nothing.

If you’ve wondered, “What can I do to assist?”—there are lots of things. You don’t need to go there yourself. A little donation can balloon into something enormous. Let me share with you some of the better places to give if you wish to assist:

Local and trustworthy sites to donate

1. Kerr County Flood Relief Fund

This fund assists people in Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort. It assists local first responders, nonprofits, and rescue squads. It’s a great way to give directly to those on the ground.

2. Southern Oaks Church—Kerrville

If you’re nearby, you can give it at 122 Valley View. But if not, they also have online giving.

3. TEXSAR (Texas Search and Rescue)

These are the heroes out on boats, drones, and dogs searching for missing individuals. They need to raise $100,000 to keep going. You can donate online.

4. Texans on Mission

This North Texas organization is helping flood victims directly. They’re also taking online donations.

5. Salvation Army Kerrville

They’re delivering food, necessities, and services to survivors of flooding. Take your donation online.

6. Good Shepherd Episcopal School (Dallas)

They’re sending a team to help and feed in the Hunt community. You can donate online or by mail.

7. American Red Cross

Always the first to show up in a disaster. You can quickly donate online.

8. Texas Progressive Caucus

They’re accepting donations to help pay for supplies and other essentials. You can donate online.

9. Mercy Chefs

They’re providing free hot meals to families, first responders, and volunteers. Your gift provides someone with a meal today.

10. International Medical Corps

They’re providing local clinics with what they need to stay open and functioning — and they’re ready to deploy medical teams if necessary. They also take online donations.

11. Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Salvation Army

Together, they’re donating up to $500,000 for flood relief. And that’s not all — they’ll match what you donate, up to $250,000. You can donate in stores or on the web.

12. Airbnb.org

They’re providing free emergency shelter for flood victims. If you’d like to sign up to be a host or donate toward an emergency shelter, it’s all on the web.

You can’t perhaps save a life face-to-face — but your heart, your finances, your kindness can save someone who’s hurting. Even $10 can make a difference.

Let’s help Texas heal. ❤️
