If you’ve ever fantasized about having an IKEA within driving distance, 2025 may be the year. The Swedish furniture giant is expanding all across the United States, with several new store openings already in the pipeline — and some in the works. Here’s the inside story on where new IKEA stores are opening up and what it means to you.
IKEA’s Big Expansion Push
You’re likely aware of IKEA’s chic, affordable furniture and innovative storage systems. But you may not realize that IKEA is currently undergoing a huge U.S. expansion. Already in 2025 alone, the company has opened five new stores, with six more lined up before the year’s end. And that’s not all — two more big-box stores are planned for 2026.
This growth is part of a $2.2 billion investment plan to expand IKEA’s reach across the United States. The goal? To bring their top-selling home items closer to more people and make shopping easier for you in a manner that makes sense, in stores or online.
Different Store Types for Different Reasons
IKEA is not just building its trademark giant box stores. The retailer is also rolling out smaller “Plan and Order” stores and expanding its pickup locations. IKEA currently has 51 full-size stores, 10 Plan and Order stores, and 39 pickup locations in the U.S.
These new stores are designed with convenience in mind. A Plan and Order store lets you sit down with a designer, design your kitchen, office, or closet, and have the products shipped to you or a pickup point near you.
Here’s Where You’ll Find New IKEA Stores
If you so happen to live near one of these cities, a brand-new IKEA store may soon be opening up in your neighborhood:
Plan and Order Stores (Opening in 2025):
- Cherry Hill, New Jersey – June opening
- Beaverton, Oregon – June opening
- Hunt Valley, Maryland – July opening
Large-Format Stores (Opening in 2025):
- San Marcos, Texas – July opening
- McAllen, Texas – October opening
- Dallas, Texas – December opening
Large-Format Stores (Planned for 2026):
- Rockwall, Texas
- Phoenix, Arizona
Texas, in particular, is getting plenty of love from IKEA, with four ginormous stores either soon to open or in the works by 2026.
What This Means for You
More stores mean more access to IKEA’s famously functional and affordable products, whether you’re redecorating a room or just need a new lamp. Plus, with regular discounts and even seasonal deals like \$150 sofas or \$0.99 household items, there’s always something new to discover.
As IKEA U.S. COO Rob Olson put it, “Our goal is simple: to be there for our customers, wherever they are and however they choose to shop.”
And with the growth, they’re making good on it — maybe even on your block.
