More than 30 Rite Aid stores in Oregon are now set to shut down as the drugstore chain finishes its second bankruptcy process in two years. It is a sharp rise from May, when a small number of slightly more than a dozen stores were under potential closure.

Rite Aid’s restructuring continues

The company, which is headquartered in Pennsylvania, is currently facing Chapter 11 bankruptcy as it struggles with declining revenues and mounting legal issues, notably in its prescription of opioids. In 2023, Rite Aid resolved a lawsuit filed by West Virginia state for being unable to track suspicious orders of pain medications in proper manner by making a payment of $30 million.

Across the nation, Rite Aid will close or sell over 1,000 stores. Oregon, with approximately 50, is among the most affected regions.

Fewer Stores, Fewer Options

Rite Aid has fallen from more than 2,000 throughout the nation to fewer than 1,300. With Oregon ranking among the most affected states, individuals who rely on an in-town Rite Aid pharmacy may want to begin preparing for modifications—especially when it comes to switching prescriptions and shopping around at other places.
