Prime members discover a new gulp of discounts on gas

With holiday travel calling, gas prices are increasing once more. As Americans hit the road in droves to visit relatives and friends, even small savings at the pump can quickly mount up. To the rescue, Amazon has come out with a new fuel-saving scheme for Prime members, where they can save as much as $0.25 per gallon every Friday.

The new campaign, “Fuel-up Fridays,” is one of Amazon’s efforts to raise the value of its Prime membership, especially through one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

The AAA reports the national average for regular gasoline at about $3.03 a gallon—the good news relief from months past but still a burden for drivers with high mileage. The new Friday gas discount is coming at the perfect time for those looking to get the most out of their road travel budgets.

How the friday gas discount works

Amazon’s new agreement supplements its existing fuel-saving initiative. Prime members typically get $0.10 per gallon discount at over 7,500 participating BP, Amoco, and AM/PM locations throughout the United States. The firm boasts this can translate to mean annual savings of some $70—almost half the cost of a yearly Prime membership.

Now, from Oct. 17 through Dec. 26, Amazon is doubling the discount with “Fuel-up Fridays”. Prime members receive an extra $0.15 per gallon off on the select Friday dates, for a total of $0.25 per gallon off.

That’s 2.5 times the typical savings. On a 15-gallon fill-up, that’s nearly $4 in upfront savings—which can add up quickly over several holiday road trips.

This discount is offered nationwide at participating BP, Amoco, and AM/PM stations, so it is easy for drivers to plan fuel stops along the route wherever they are going.

How to get the discount

It is easy to enjoy the Friday discount and completely electronic. First, members need to have:

  • An active Amazon Prime membership.
  • A free Earnify account, which manages the rewards program.

Here’s how to switch on and redeem your savings:

  • Go to Amazon’s fuel savings page and link your Prime membership with your Earnify account.
  • Open the Earnify app and use the station locator to find nearby BP, Amoco, or AM/PM gas stations included in the programme.
  • When you arrive at the pump, trigger your discount using your phone number registered with Earnify, your connected payment card, or selecting the pump through the app itself.

Once associated, your initial $0.10 per gallon discount will remain in effect for as long as your Prime membership is active. The extra $0.15 Friday discount is automatically applied during the promotion period.

Why this program matters

Amazon’s deal with Earnify is intended to make travel cheaper and more convenient for Prime members. With so many Americans struggling to pay for the cost of living and fluctuating gas prices, the programme offers a small but useful way to save.

The timing of the offer is good too: the period from late October through December includes the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s travel periods, when the demand for gas is most concentrated nationwide.

Despite the fact that gas prices have fallen somewhat from previous highs, too many drivers are still pinched. A $0.25 per gallon savings can be true relief for long-distance travellers or daily commuters.

More than just gas savings

Aside from gas discounts, Amazon’s partnership with Earnify provides Prime members with other rewards and discounts that are exclusive to them all year round. Customers can earn cash back or extra discounts when shopping at partner merchants, making the programme a more rewarding programme year-round, beyond the holiday season.

Drivers who want to save every dollar they can will appreciate Fuel-up Fridays as an easy, automatic means of keeping more dollars in their pockets on the road this winter.
