Banks, post offices, UPS and FedEx services will not be available on July 4th

As Americans get set to celebrate Independence Day on Friday, July 4, 2025,

individuals want to know if major services will be operational on the federal holiday. Shipping or banks, most of the top institutions will be closed or have modified working hours to enable workers to participate in celebrating America’s independence in the 249th year. Below is all you need to understand regarding what services will be operational and when they will open as usual.

Banks close on July 4th

Major American banks will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025, to observe Independence Day. Banks closed will be large national banks like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, CitiBank, JPMorgan Chase, PNC, and Capital One. Also closed will be the Federal Reserve, which means no ACH transactions or wire transfers will be received until the following business day.

Bank operations will be back to normal mode on Monday, July 7, 2025. Basic services, however, remain available to the customers during the holiday:

Services available on July 4th:

  • Online banking and mobile banking phone apps are completely accessible
  • ATM services continue to work normally
  • Capital One Cafes are still open even though bank offices are closed

Services not available on July 4th:

  • Branch bank services and teller help
  • Wire transfer and ACH processing service
  • Customer service telephone support at most institutions
  • In-person loan requests or opening an account

Post offices totally closed

United States Postal Service (USPS) will totally be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025. USPS, being a federal government agency, adopts the federal holiday schedule, so:

What’s closed:

  • All post office retail offices are closed to counter service
  • No regular collection or delivery of mail will be made
  • No Post Office Box service will be available

What still remains:

  • Priority Mail Express delivery is uninterrupted on holidays
  • Self-Service Kiosks at participating locations remain available 24/7
  • USPS.com online services are not affected

Regular mail service reinstates on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Mail deposited in collection boxes on the 4th of July will be sorted on the next business day.

UPS Services suspended

UPS will be non-operational for pickup and delivery on the 4th of July 2025. UPS recognizes Independence Day as one of its official holidays and thus:

  • UPS Ground, Air & International service is not operational
  • Most UPS Store locations are closed
  • Normal pickup and delivery services are suspended

Emergency Services available:

  • UPS Express Critical service (now offered by MNX) remains available 24/7/365
  • UPS Drop Off Boxes remain available, but packages won’t be sent until the first business day

FedEx Operations altered

FedEx will close most pickup and delivery operations on July 4, 2025. The company holiday schedule is differentiated by service type:

FedEx Services closed:

  • FedEx Ground and Home Delivery services are closed
  • Most FedEx Express services are closed
  • FedEx Freight is on no or limited service
  • Limited Services Available:
  • FedEx Office centers might be open with limited hours
  • FedEx Custom Critical service continues 24/7
  • Certain FedEx Express Critical shipments will continue to be serviced
