Blue Ridge Beef pet food recalls after positive for salmonella and listeria – These are the lots and products affected by the recall

Blue Ridge beef, a North Carolina-based producer of raw pet food, initiated multiple recalls due to potential contamination of salmonella  and Listeria monocytogenes.

A North Carolina pet food producer named Blue Ridge Beef, initiated several recalls of their products due to potential contamination with salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. These pathogens are very risky for humans and pets alike, especially those with weakened immune systems. 

Recall overview 

The Blue RIdge beef initiated recalls of the following pet foods: the kitten mix, the puppy mix and natural mix.  

The Kitten Mix

According to the Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA), following the complaint of a customer of animal illness, a sample was collected by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources and tested by the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory on the 12th of December, 2024. The sample tested positive for Salmonella. 

The firm was notified by the FDA that the product tested positive for salmonella on the 3rd of January, 2025. The product was however distributed between July 18, 2025 and July 26, 2025. The product is packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retail stores located in the States of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. 

The company therefore initiated a recall of about 1,350lbs of their 2 1b log Kitten Mix. 

The puppy Mix

A problem was discovered when a customer litter of puppies became ill which was followed by a report to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) after which it was tested positive with Salmonella. 

On the 27th of November, 2025, the company was notified by the FDA that the products tested positive. The products were distributed between August 6, 2024, and August 23, 2024. These products were packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retail stores located in the States of Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. 

A recall of 9,600lbs of 2lb log of their puppy mix was initiated. 

The Natural Mix

Samples of the product were collected and tested by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture on the 8th of January 2025, and were also tested positive for Salmonella. The firm was notified by the FDA on the 27th of January, 2025. 

On February 5 2025, a recall of 5,700lbs of 2lb log natural mix was initiated due to the contamination.

  • Quantity Recalled: 9,600 lbs

To identify the natural mix, check for: 

  • Recall Date: January 31, 2025
  • Product Details: 2 lb logs of Natural Mix
  • Lot Number: N25/12/31
  • UPC: 854298001054
  • Quantity Recalled: 5,700 lbs
  • Distribution: January 3–24, 2025

Consumers who had purchased any of these products are advised to : 

  • Discontinue feeding them to their pets. 
  • Return to store or destroy immediately 
  • Sanitize eating bowls, cups, storage containers, etc thoroughly to ensure that there are no traces of salmonella.
