If you have a favorite cereal you look forward to every morning, this might be hard to hear. General Mills has quietly discontinued three of its cereal flavors, and fans are already noticing the change on store shelves.

The move is part of the company’s plan to streamline its product line and make room for new, healthier options. But if one of these was your go-to, you are probably wondering why it had to go.

Which General Mills cereals are being discontinued?

Let us get right to it. These are the three cereals General Mills has officially pulled from stores:

  • Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch
This one made its debut in 2013 and had quite a loyal fan base. It blended the classic Honey Nut Cheerios with oat clusters and flakes. Now, it is gone for good. A customer wrote on the product page, ā€œI have been scouring my local stores for THE BEST CHEERIOS of all time and they are gone!!!ā€ That says a lot about how loved it was.
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios
This cereal first hit shelves in 2017, combining two popular flavors. But it seems like it never really gained enough traction. The online buzz around its removal was fairly quiet, which might explain why General Mills chose to cut it.
  • Honey Nut Cheerios Minis
This was just a mini version of the original, but it seems consumers did not connect with it. Unlike other mini snack versions that are trending now, like Frito-Lay’s mini chips, these tiny Cheerios just did not take off the way General Mills had hoped.

Why did General Mills pull these cereals?

In a statement to TheStreet, Renee Mailhiot, Senior VP of Media at General Mills, explained, ā€œAs we have introduced new innovations this year — including Cheerios Protein… we have discontinued a few products from our portfolio.ā€

So really, it is not that the cereals were bad. The company is just trying to make room for new products that better match what people are looking for right now—like high-protein, lower-sugar options.

What new cereals is General Mills releasing instead?

While it is sad to see familiar flavors disappear, General Mills is not leaving cereal lovers empty-handed. Some new and returning cereals have already started popping up in stores:

  • Cheerios Protein — Available in Cinnamon, Strawberry, and Cookies & Cream. Each serving has eight grams of protein.
  • Cheerios Oat Crunch Chocolate — A brand-new twist on the Oat Crunch line.
  • Frosted Lemon Cheerios — This fan-favorite is back for a limited time.
  • Bluey Cereal — A lightly sweetened corn cereal based on the popular kids’ cartoon.
  • Strawberry Vanilla Chex — A Sam’s Club exclusive flavor.

These new options show that General Mills is listening to shifting trends. People today are leaning more toward cereals with added nutrition benefits, and the company is moving with that demand.

Is General Mills planning more cuts?

Yes. During a March 19 earnings call, General Mills CEO Jeffrey Harmening said, ā€œThe focus for fiscal ’26 will be on fewer but bigger innovations.ā€ That means we can expect more products to be removed, but the company is betting big on the new releases.
