If you have a Chrysler Pacifica or Voyager from 2022 to 2025, you might want to listen carefully to a recent safety recall. Chrysler has announced a recall of 250,651 vehicles due to a defect in the side curtain airbags. The problem is that, in a few instances, these airbags won’t get filled to an adequate level of pressure when they deploy in a collision. That means you have the possibility that when you’re actually in a real emergency situation, your airbags won’t protect you like they are supposed to.
What’s causing the problem?
The issue appears to be caused by poorly sealed seams within the airbags themselves. Such faulty seals can permit air to escape too quickly as the airbag inflates. This flaw could reduce the effectiveness of the airbag and increase the risk of injury in certain types of crashes, especially side-impact crashes.
What models and years are involved?
The recall targets some 2022 through 2025 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager models only. If your vehicle is in those model years, it may be included even if you’ve never had a problem. Chrysler and its corporate parent Stellantis, are encouraging owners to act rapidly when they are notified of a recall.
What Chrysler is doing about it
Here’s the best part: Chrysler is fixing it all for free for you. Dealers will inspect your vehicle and, if needed, swap the faulty side curtain airbags. The company said it’s a voluntary recall and part of its ongoing commitment to customer safety. Even more comforting, Chrysler reports that it has no information at all about accidents or injuries so far linked to this specific defect.
A pattern of recalls
This is not the first instance in recent history that Chrysler and Stellantis have been beset by issues with airbags. In 2024 alone, Chrysler recalled over 211,000 SUVs and pickup trucks because of a software malfunction that could disable the electronic stability control systems of the vehicles. There was another recall in Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars wherein airbags could explosively rupture at any moment, shooting metal shrapnel throughout the vehicle—a deadly threat for anyone within.
What you should do now
If you own a 2022–2025 Pacifica or Voyager, check your mailbox or email for a recall notice. Or visit the NHTSA’s website and look up your vehicle identification number (VIN) to see if your car is being recalled. Don’t ignore it—schedule an appointment at your local Chrysler dealership for an inspection. It’s free, and it’s a simple thing that could prevent you from ending up in a dangerous situation down the line.
Safety recalls aren’t red tape strings—far from it. They’re designed to safeguard you and your family from danger. So if your vehicle is listed, take action now.
