The Stanford Board of Trustees approved the 4% tuition increase in February 2025 to $67,731 for the 2025-26 academic year, and the new base room and board rate will be $22,167.

The increases will result in nearly half of the Stanford undergraduate students seeing no increase in their cost due to the university’s generous financial aid package.

Undergraduate tuition and fees

For those students who are paying on their own, the price of going to school in 2025-26, including board and room, will be $89,898. That is a 4% increase over past years, the university stated, because the university must maintain its level of education as operating costs rise.

Financial aid initiatives

Stanford is committed to educating students from diverse economic backgrounds. Thirty percent of the families of undergraduate students won’t be required to pay tuition in 2025-26. Incomes less than $150,000 a median asset family income won’t be required to pay parent contribution towards tuition in Stanford’s need-blind policy. Under $100,000 yearly incomes won’t be required to pay towards tuition, room, and board.

The allocation of scholarships considers factors as diverse as home size and income, college-age dependents, and other assets aside from home equity and retirement savings. When broken down further, packages created are as distinctive as the exact family members’ economic situation.

Graduate tuition and housing

Graduate students will also have their tuition increase by 4% for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The majority of their tuition will be covered by fellowships, research assistantships, or teaching assistantships. Further information regarding professional program tuition will be released on the Student Services website later.

Graduate student room rates will go up on average by 4%; otherwise, rent varies according to unit category and floor plan. This is an attempt to respond to the appeal for affordability in the context of increasing costs of keeping campus housing buildings in proper condition.

Commitment to debt-free graduation

Stanford scholarships and grants are used to reduce borrowing by students. During the class of 2023-24 graduating class, 88% of the undergraduate students graduated debt-free, and the debt of the borrowers averaged $13,723. That is representative of how devoted the university is to keeping higher education affordable.

Tools for prospective students

To help prospective students and families plan for the potential costs and financing, Stanford provides resources like the “Quick College Cost Estimator” on the university’s financial aid website. These are family-specific budgeting calculators to plan for the cost of a Stanford education.
